Dubai, UAE | 2015

The Island Pier and Dubai Lighthouse present a landscape of courtyards and iconic features, the quintessence of gulf culture, to unite the cultural and commercial into a singular architectural experience. Three distinct routes connect visitors from land and sea, bringing together retail, dining, cultural attractions, and outdoor recreation in an architecture that makes the journey as exciting as the destination. Iconic elements engage surrounding buildings and views in representing the past and future of Dubai’s venerable maritime culture while creating new landmarks within the hotel and beachfront development. A veritable city in the pier is organized on three levels. Above, the outdoor culture park leads to verdant courtyards, linking to a spectacular indoor street, a Souk blending retail and hospitality. A dockside promenade adjoins the marina, with its own signature shops and cafes.

Three Icons: the Pearl Museum, Pyramid Club, and Lighthouse integrate the life of Dubai’s waterfront into the Island Pier, landmark destinations for local shoppers as well as business travelers and cultural sightseers. Lighthouse: An icon and an overlook, its spectacular views offer a destination to visitors, drawing through the project to a unique finale. Pyramid Club: An exclusive club room overlooking the gardens and the sea offers a unique site for meetings and events. Pearl Museum: Sitting atop the park, yet integrated into the lower level, it signifies an encounter with Dubai’s historic pearl industry and acts a gateway to iconic elements in the project. The Yacht Club and Marina Promenade function as authentic sites of maritime activity, creating a dynamic blend of culture, commerce, and recreation that makes each attraction a destination in its own right.

The culmination of the waterfront journey, the Dubai Lighthouse: a shimmering veil by day and an ever-changing symphony of light after sunset. The Island Pier and Lighthouse form a dynamic ensemble, the crowning symbol of Dubai's innovative spirit, and a thoroughly unique destination completing the great arc of Jumeirah's beachfront hotel.
